The hall erupted with cheers and giggles. People gather into small groups and start discussing about the activities planned after such long suffering. Some tore their entry proof as a mark of the end of examinations while others burn it. The ongoing hustle and bustle makes me feel sad. It’s their last paper, not mine. For us, the computing students, we’ll have it all finished on this Friday. While the others enjoy their long breaks, we’ll still be mugging our butts off trying to not get distracted by their heated conversations.
Reflecting on my less than confident shaded answers, I start stuffing the weapons prepared for the 1 hour and 15 minutes intense war into my bag. Should I rant about the paper? Before I turned around and start approaching my friends, I could hear Jolene’s high pitched voice commenting about the paper before and how she couldn’t finish it. I was tempted to join in but my inner mind told me That’s enough, it’s already over. No use lamenting about it anymore. Waste of time and effort.
And so, we went to the washroom to change into our PE shirts, anything to get out of the stuffy blouse. Hunger overtook me. Every word spouted out of my mouth were related to the grumbling of my stomach, wanting to satisfy itself. Its craving wasn’t fulfilled until we reached Orchard ION. To my surprise, the Japanese bakery sells Melon Buns! I’ve wanted to try it for a long time. Every time I flip through a manga, there would sure be mentions about it. It seems that all the characters love it and I’m sure it’s drawn for a purpose, especially in Shakugan No Shana where we obviously know that the protagonist loves melon buns and cannot live without it.
With no source, confidence made me bring it to the cashier and pay for it. Of course, it didn’t disappoint. Right now, I still can taste the sweetness in my mouth. Anything for another melon bun.
After filling our stomach, our legs carried us to New Look. Its the second time since I’ve stepped into the shop. Been there once last Wednesday I think (my memory fails me) when WenJia, Jaslyn and I were just browsing through the garments they sell. As if it was a trend, I couldn’t find that dress that I took a liking to the other time. First time it was the beanie from Fox, then the faded purple frock from a shop in CityLink and now, a dress in New Look. No idea why, but it seems when you’re shopping for a purpose, God seems to play tricks on us.
Jolene and Jeannette’s legs started to hurt and Jeannette was labelled as the ‘problematic kid’ as she started to exhibit strange behaviors. Jolene then took on the role of a ‘super nanny’ trying to take Jeannette in hand. Her experience came handy and managed to thumb Jeannette under her mighty finger. We continued to stroll along Topshop, Uniqlo and Zara.
There’s still blouse in Zara that really matched my tastes but Jolene claimed that we can get it outside at a much lower price. 50 dollars is too steep given its bland design and less than rare cloth.
After much browsing, we arrived in Fox. Unexpectedly, Jennifer’s sweater is still on sale! It’s been a long time since she bought it and WeiQin and I both agreed that we thought it would be taken off the shelves already but it seems otherwise. We can never know how retail stores work. WeiQin got a black wavy dress scattered with random white dots at 36dollars. While I became the only one who haven’t fulfilled my objective.
Jolene brought us to Far East Plaza with absolute faith we can find something that suits me. And yes, we did after 3 hours. We combed through levels by levels and even came up with a strategy of ‘divide and conquer’ which we learned in Computing. Applying theories learnt, we’re top notched students! While searching, Jeannette started to grab any dress that she like and try to convince us its nice and we should try it. I don’t know why but somehow everything she chooses just have this low cleavage trend to it. Maybe.. she likes such stuff? She might have a hidden side somewhere which we don’t know!
Finally, after a day of shopping, we had our dinner at the Wonton Mee shop at the basement. No idea whether its because of our starving stomachs or the food, we enjoyed our dinner. Oh, and the other thing that fascinated Jolene and I was the wall which was filled with Korean boy group names though this is Singapore. Just to name a few, wordings like “Shinee” and “DBSK” were scattered around those huge walls.
We departed from the mall at 9pm. Jeannette and Jolene took the bus home while WeiQin and I took the Mrt.
It was a day of fun (:
Ps. Thanks WeiQin, Jolene and Jeannette for patiently helping me to get something though we were all tired!
