Think.

When you were young, have you ever helped your parents carry anything heavy? Young here actually refer to ages of 4 to 7 years old. Almost an imaginable scene. On Sunday, when I was out with my family, I came across this scene that obviously made me ashamed of myself. There were these bunch of kids, straddled with bags of groceries, trying to catch up with their mum who is far in front. Those bags were huge for their short stature. Despite the heavy load, they did their best in following and also not let the bags fall on the floor.

The way Caucasians bring up their children is definitely different from us. They believe that in order for their children to learn, they have to expose them to the dangers outside. Let them learn for themselves whats right and whats wrong. To understand pain, to feel it themselves and know what should and what shouldn’t be done.

Singaporeans on the other hand, have a completely different tactic of teaching their kids. If we just look observe around us, parents are at their children’s beck and call. They cater to their every whine and whim without any failure. The kids then get the wrong idea that once they make a fuss, they would beyond doubt get what they want.

Both ways result in different outcomes. But when I face such situations in the future, I’ll unmistakably pick, the former way.
