RMIT orientation camp 2010
Jul 1st
Trying to wake up at 6.30am in the morning after a long day at work on Friday proved to be a difficulty. Literally crawled out of bed after multiple reminders by my maid. Having packed my camp bag only several hours ago, I kept asking myself whether I have forgotten anything important. At least I learnt my lesson from the previous trips/camps by bringing my contact lens casing and also my spectacles!
Dad drove my brother and I to SIM. When we arrived, I saw a crowd of people sitting at benches. Some were in groups, some were alone. At that moment, it was hard to imagine that most of us would become friends in a day or so. Did our administration stuff, took our orientation shirt and gathering in the lecture theater.
I should say I was super lucky to have my brother to be in the same group as me. Someone to talk to! If not I’ll feel so weird :l However, I should say that didn’t proved as a problem afterwards. In fact, I exchanged little with my brother compared to my new made friends! (:
We had ice-breaking games. Played a super traditional one which was to repeat the names that were in front of you. It was a chore trying to remember 25 names; 28 including our OGLs. Super insane! We ended up calling each other by our shirt colour which was super hilarious. So if you were wearing a white shirt, your new english name would be White. I guess there were many “Black”s.
After that we spent much time doing our group flag and our cheer. Oh, did I say? Our group colour was hot pink!
D Back to the topic, our cheer was inspired by SNSD’s Oh! Seriously, there’s so many korean pop fans out there. We tried to include Wonder Girl’s Nobody in but it was hard to connect the both songs together. So in the end we changed songs.
Made my first friend, Swee Hong. I realized there were many JC-ians in my OG. Quite surprised, thought that I would be the only one. We arrived at our campsite at around 12 (I think). Seriously, after spending an entire day and night there, I can tell you about the frequency of flights to and fro Singapore. Evening is the PEAK hour. We kept having this “commercial break” every now and then because of the airplanes. The sound was so loud! And there was this gush of wind every time a plane passes us.
We went around game stations, had a lot of fun and also frustrated moments. Shouldn’t elaborate on them out here. At night, we had a campfire! Seriously, I think it was pretty redundant :X But now I know new cheers, such as the underwear cheer. LOL. Also, manhunt was pretty hilarious too. Poor Yap who represented us was asked to do many weird poses and humiliating acts but I guess his hard work paid off and earned the title of Manhunt 2010!
Then was captain ball match! Fell and scrapped by palm and knee ): More scars! Haix. It reminded me of the days when 112 would play basketball during breaks! ><” Miss those times!
When the clock ticked 12am, we finally were dismissed to our “dorms” and had a shower. It was a horrible experience! The toilets were FLOODED. So when I was showering halfway, my slippers were floating and having a time of their own. It was hard work trying to keep them from invading the cubicle on my left while trying to clean myself.
I think I was pretty traumatized when I left the showers because I couldn’t find our room! I kept peering into the wrong rooms x.x Swee Hong guided me back. Luckily she was there, if not I’m sure I wouldn’t have made the way back myself.
Sleep was terrible. I was actually half-conscious the entire time. In the middle of the night, Shah and the other guys came into our room and asked us to do cheer which shocked me. I thought it was real! Then I heard Abi said “Nono. Go back to sleep. Ignore him”. I then relaxed and drifted back to sleep. Couple, no. Several times, I could feel the cold wind on my face which was followed by the loud “vroooom” of the plane landing and taking off.
I was practically awake before my alarm rang. Actually, I didn’t even give it a chance to ring because I switched it off 20 minutes before the set time. Brushed my teeth and put on my contact lens. Another tiring day has began. There was this mass showering due to the heavy downpour. It was a really fresh experience being able to feel the raindrops hit your skin when they actually “ain’t” hitting you at all. The only reason for that? RAINCOATS!
We were drenched, from head to neck (LOL) and knee to shoes. We changed to slippers after that. It was pure gross having wet shoes on. Went over to the guys’ side. Played games with the other OG and then left for SIM!
Said bye to Kachings!
Kachings rock!
love ya guys! I guess I’m glad I went for Orientation. If not, I would most probably be hanging out ALONE in school which is actually not possible because my brother is here. LOL. Oh well, it’ll be bad anyways still.
